Neighborhoods Print this page
Like most big cities there are thousands of neighborhoods who's defineing borders are always up for debate. In a search to better understand the wagons area I decided to look up the commonly agreed upon neighborhood borders within Engine 22 and Truck 11's local alarm area. Much of this information is taken from Wikipedia and other websites, I will update and verify as best I can.
The Brightwood Neighborhood:
The southernmost neighborhood in the wagons local alarm area and the seat of our firehouse. Per the Brightwood Neighborhood association the boundaries of this neighborhood are Aspen street to the north, 16th street to the west, Georgia Ave to the east, and Kennedy street to the south. The northernmost boundary of Brightwood marks the end of the three syllable street system and marks the beginning of the streets designated with two or more syllables that are named after trees, shrubs, or flowers. This is commonly referred to as the fourth alphabet. Whittier st marking the last non floral three syllable street prefaces Aspen st, Aspen being the southern boundary of WRAMC.
Shepherd Park:
Directly above the Brightwood neighborhood lies Shepherd Park. Between Brightwood and Shepherd Park is the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Shepherd Park runs from Fern st to Eastern Ave bordering Silver Spring, MD and lays between Georgia Ave and 16th st.
Manor Park:
This neighborhood is bordered by 5th st to the west, Blair road to the east, Missouri Ave to the south, and Aspen st to the north.
Colonial Village:
It is bounded by Portal Drive to the north, 16th Street to the east, and Rock Creek Park to the west and south.
Takoma:
Takoma is bounded by Georgia Ave to the west, somewhere between Tuckerman and Aspen Streets to the south, and Eastern Ave to the northeast. Along Eastern Avenue, the boundary of the District of Columbia, the neighborhood borders the city of Takoma Park, Maryland , with which it shares its origins.
